The latest and best tips for screening success.

Getting snarled and getting clear

Snarling (or tangling) of fibrous elongated material: roots, grass, plastic/rubbish - often around the screen box stringer support bars - can be a major obstacle in processing deposits and materials.

It gathers at screen box supports and builds up and up, reducing screen productivity until it’s removed. Removal can be a difficult, uncomfortable, time-consuming task but it must be done, sometimes multiple times per day, to keep productivity viable. Additionally, if this kind of material does get past the snarled deck, it can contaminate the product specification, decreasing its value and usability.

How we fix this: The approach varies depending on the specification required, the type of problem material and the screening plant(s) available. Ideally, we aim to remove the problem material as early as possible by implementing the most appropriate screen surface and aperture on the snarled deck and the deck before and above.
